Oregon State University researchers have found a possible link between taking things too seriously and early death.

Pink Martini Percussionist Derek Rieth Kills Himself

Pink Martini’s percussionist is dead.  The Oregon State Medical Examiner says 43-year-old Derek Jordan Rieth shot himself in the head with a shotgun on Wednesday August 20th just after 8:00 p.m. Portland Police officers conducted a welfare check on Rieth and found him deceased in his home.  A shotgun was there and was seized as evidence. PORTLAND — A man was killed when fire ripped through a Southeast Portland apartment early Friday morning.  A mother and child in a neighboring apartment were among eleven people evacuated by the fire.

Deadly Eugene House Fire Considered Suspicious

EUGENE, Ore. — Authorities say a body has been found at a house fire that a police spokeswoman calls “suspicious.”

The fire was in the city’s Fairmount neighborhood and was reported after midnight.

The police said Wednesday morning the body was found as firefighters extinguished the blaze.
