Portland, Or. – Timber Joey was out at the Portland Airport this morning, greeting Thanksgiving travelers at the Alaska Airlines ticket counter. Alaska was offering priority boarding to anyone who showed up in Portland Timbers gear. The Timbers are in the MLS play offs.

Bonus Time

PORTLAND, Ore. — Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air employees based in Portland today received their annual bonuses for 2014.

A spokeswoman for Alaska says 2,122 workers based here received the equivalent of about 5 weeks pay.  Bonuses are awarded for meeting specific, company-wide goals that include safety, customer satisfaction, and profit.

Bonuses were also paid today to Alaska/Horizon employees …

Next time you’re on a plane, pay attention to the look of frustration on the faces of passengers as they jam their stuff into overhead storage bins.  There may be more smiles late next year, when Alaska Airlines becomes the first to offer bins that are bigger, by almost half, than the current bins.

Alaska Airlines filed today for permission to begin non-stop seasonal flights between Portland and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico starting in November.  Alaska also filed for non-stops from PDX to Los Cabos, starting in November.

The airline says it could take up to one month for the U.S. Department of Transportation to approve the new service.   It’s been five-years since Portland had non-stops …
