Bret Martin
A native Oregonian for 51-years, Bret was raised in Milwaukie.
His first job was as a paper boy at age 12, and in addition, he rapidly built a small LAWN and GARDEN company of ONE.
Upon graduating from Rex Putnam High School in 1980, Bret attended the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls on a baseball scholarship.
Returning home to attend Clackamas Community College and mend his broken heart from home-sickness his sophomore year, Bret was involved in a tragic motor vehicle accident and spent a year in a wheel chair with multiple compound fractures to both legs.
Bret spent the next 10 years floundering among dead-end jobs, in and out of college, until he found the financial industry. It was there that he eventually started a mortgage company, never knowing it would grow to become one of the largest mortgage companies of its kind in the United States. Bret went on to retire at age 44.
During the first year of his retirement, Bret’s wife of 20-years announced a divorce, catching him and their children off-guard completely. Out of a need to keep himself busy, and maintain his sanity during the division of assets and setting up a new household for himself, Bret started a financial company that loans money to Business Owners.
Bret’s company grew to about 700 men and women across the country, but as fate would have it, on December 15th 2012, the day after the Sandy Hook Grade School Massacre, Bret dropped everything and started the Open Heart Foundation and a program called Prior To AA.
Bret would like people to know that "all that wonder may not be lost."
