It's one of those things that blows your mind when you hear it.

A waste water operator who works for the City of Portland has been arrested and accused of helping terrorists. Reaz Qadir Khan was arrested at his home on Tuesday and accused of sending money and advice to a terrorist involved in a suicide attack in Pakistan in 2009 that killed 30 people and injured another 300. He was born in Pakistan but is a naturalized U.S. citizen. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

As a public employee, he would be eligible for the PERS that comes along with that. But what if he is found guilty? Common sense would dictate that, if convicted of something like terrorism, this person would no longer qualify for their pension.

We called PERS and were shocked to find out that, even if convicted, he would STILL GET HIS PERS PENSION! Their logic: He paid into it, so he deserves it.

Only in Portlandia...
