Cell phone video from a witness shines light on what led police to shoot and kill a man outside Portland Adventist Medical Center Sunday night.  Merle Hatch appears only for a brief moment on the expletive laced video as he runs toward officers.  You you can hear him challenging officers for several minutes.  The 50-year-old fugitive ran at officers who were counting to three. 

At least eight shots were fired by police who thought Hatch had a gun.  It turned out to be a black plastic pay phone receiver from inside the hospital.  Hatch is seen on surveillance tape before the confrontation using that to threaten a guard inside the hospital.
