Gay Cakes For All?
Just how many cakes will the state let you bake,
if you won’t bake cakes for gays? Oregon
officials have launched an investigation into a Gresham bakery known as sweet
cakes. Its owner, Aaron Klein doesn’t
understand why he’s in trouble. He bakes
cakes for all kinds of occasions. Last
month, a young lady came into his shop and told him she needed a wedding but
when he asked for the name of the groom, she explained that THIS wedding had
two brides. Klein told the young lady
that while he’s produced cakes for gay birthdays, his religious beliefs don’t
include homosexual marriage and he declined the job. The young lady’s mother then read the baker
the riot act and stormed out of the store.
Now the state of Oregon has informed Klein that his bakery is under
investigation by the Department of Justice for alleged civil rights
violations. If that isn’t crazy enough,
the complaint wasn’t filed by the young lady who Klein refused to bake for…but
by her significant other…who, get this, bought a wedding cake for her mom two
years ago. She’s demanding to be paid
back for that. And you wonder why people
are clamoring to open new businesses in Oregon.
