All the talk of what to name Rose-Tu's newborn female calf is pushed aside by revelations that the Oregon Zoo doesn't own the baby elephant.

A breeding agreement gives ownership to Have Trunk Will Travel, a California elephant rental company after thirty days.  The contract does not deal with where the elephant stays, and there are no plans to relocate.

The calf's father, Tusko, is also owned by the same company.  The contract calls for his second, fourth and sixth calves to go to them.

Zoo Director Kim Smith

Yesterday, the zoo announced five names to choose from:

Jaidee - Thai for "good-hearted"
Sirikit - Name for Thai royalty, meaning "glorious"
Rakhi - Sanskrit for "love and bond between siblings"
Lily - Flower theme of mom's name, "Rose" for short
Siddhi - Sanskrit for "perfection"; wife of Ganesha
