Deadly Apartment Fire in Southeast Portland

Inside an apartment was the body of 56-year-old Berna Dizer. Her nephew says his aunt suffered from Lou Gehrig's Disease and was confined to her bed.
A neighbor saw the smoke before crews arrived and knocked on doors to help get people outside. He felt helpless that he couldn't reach two people on a back balcony. Firefighters rescued them.
The fire spread through two floors to the attic and crews had to punch holes in the roof to put out the flames.
