Network Outage Affecting Alaska Flights Fixed

Line of passengers at PDX

A network outage with Alaska Airlines' data connection partner Sprint caused frustration for several hours today after two fiber optic lines were cut.  It knocked out the carrier's ticketing system just after 7:30 this morning.

Alaska flights could not take-off or land at PDX and passengers couldn't check in or make reservations until the outage was fixed around noon.  It caused cancellations, long lines and delays that continued well after the system was back online.

64 airports were affected, including Sea-Tac, where Alaska is the largest carrier.  Mexico, Canada and Alaska also felt the impacts.  70 flights were cancelled affecting more than 6,000 passengers.  Other flights were up to four hours late.

Sprint customers in parts of Oregon, Washington and California were also without service.
