Is Telling Cops To Hold Back The Right Thing To Do?
You’re hearing today about the parents of Lukas Glenn
and the two and a-half million dollar judgment against Washington County
because its deputies shot their son to death.
There’s plenty of reason to feel for parents who lose a child. But what they’ve done in this suit puts us
all at risk.
Lately a lot of Police
agencies are losing suits like this to boo-hoo juries who can Monday morning
quarterback us all to death.
The Glenn’s
called police because their son was drunk and dangerous. Deputies acted accordingly. When the young man with the knife and a death
wish started heading back to a house where his parents waited…they shot him.
A jury decided deputies committed no crime.
But now police will be told to hold back, hesitate, let the crazy person with
the weapon get back in range of potential victims. And people will die…because we’re telling the
police we’d rather let that crazy person get another stab at those victims than
remote the threat.
