Do you remember New Year’s Eve? - The OHSU EffectHave you forgotten New Year’s
parties of years past—perhaps you enjoyed them too much? Blackouts from
drinking too much are far too common, especially among young people who are more
likely to binge drink, but they can happen to anyone. According to Kathy Grant,
Ph.D., on OHSU’s On The Brain Blog, the areas in our brain that are related to memory
are more sensitive to alcohol than other parts of our brains. Grant suggests eating
a full meal before you drink, drinking in moderation, and sipping your drinks
to ensure you remember everything from your New Year’s celebration. Learn more on OHSU’s On The
Brain Blog. -Lacey

The challenge of testing new Alzheimer’s drugs - The OHSU effectAlzheimer’s
researchers are dealing with the problem by identifying people who are at
high-risk for Alzheimer’s and using only them in studies. That may show us more
quickly if a drug is working.

out more about the OHSU effect and working to prevent Alzheimer’s on their On
the Brain blog.

It Is ON Lars......Let the Battle Begin......A Battle For A Good Cause.I was really impressed with how the whole Salvation Army Red Kettle Fundraiser got started. It began in San Francisco in 1891 when a Salvation Army Captain wanted to raise money to feed a big meal to hungry people in his city. He remembered his days as a sailor in England when they used a big kettle to collect money. So, he brought that to the states. Since then, the red kettle campaign has spread around the globe. Now, new technology is available with a click of the mouse. If you donate at the onlineredkettle.org/rebecca, you can help this agency do the good work they set out to do on that day so long ago. You can also help me have a little bragging rights over Lars which is always kind of fun. You already have stepped up and helped out. Clyde and Nancy Cornell, Donna Heffner, Thor Waage, Harold Pugh....and all the rest of you, thanks so much for your donations so far. You are helping The Salvation Army continue to feed the hungry, provide after school programs to kids, help the elderly with medical care, and help out in times of disaster. Eighty-two cents on every dollar goes directly to programs and not overhead costs. Let's keep this going for the next few weeks. If you donate, you qualify to win a $100 gift certificate to Restaurants.com. Together we can help The Salvation Army continue Doing the Most Good. Thanks everyone and Merry Christmas! ~Rebecca
