THE LARS LARSON SHOW                         Honestly Provocative.

Lars LarsonLars got his start in radio at age 16 spinning records (remember 45s?) and reading news, sports and weather (twice an hour) on KTIL (The Mighty 1590) from a little cinderblock building on the edge of a cow pasture in Tillamook, Oregon (75 miles West of Portland, Oregon).

36 years later, he’s only moved 75 miles east to Portland and light years to “the Right”. Emmy and Peabody award winner Lars Larson brings nearly four decades of experience as a radio and television journalist to the microphone for six hours of the best talk radio in America. Six hours of daily prep keep The Lars Larson Show on top of the news and top-of-mind for listeners across the country.

Along the way, Lars has worked for more than a dozen radio stations and five television stations. Today, Lars holds down the fort from 12pm – 4pm on Radio Northwest flagship FM NEWS 101 KXL. His local talk show airs on seventeen stations in the Pacific Northwest (and earns him the biggest local talk radio audience in the region).

HEARD ON LARS LARSON

Bye-Bye Buisness

I've been saying for years that Oregon is one of the most business unfriendly states in the union.

Now, one Oregon business has decided that trying to expand here isn't worth the headaches...

Colt Competition makes fantastic firearms in Canby, OR, and owner Charlie Lake came on the show today to dispel rumors that he was moving the company to Texas.

Charlie did say that he isn't moving the company to Texas, he is expanding...

Remembering Margaret Thatcher

If you listen to the news all day today, you’re going to hear the quote a thousand times after the passing of Lady Margaret Thatcher, the Iron Lady of Britain, and the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She said, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money”. She knew that in the 80’s and she tried to fix the problem in her country. Before Thatcher, the government had taken over major industries throughout the country and it put the country in a terrible economic state. Thatcher reversed that course, sold industries back to the private sector and Britain prospered. Now in America, we see OUR government taking over major industries… health care, banking, automobile and technology. Of course, the actual ownership may stay in private hands, but the government’s money is everywhere…and its rules. If you write the rules and the checks, it has the same effect as ownership. Federal, state, county and city governments amass piles of debt we’ll never pay off. I only wish that our region…and our country…would see a modern day Margaret Thatcher emerge and turn us away from the socialism Obama and his buddies embrace. May Lady Thatcher rest in peace.

The Documentary That Wants To Tell The Truth About Benghazi

For months, we've been working to help uncover the secrets behind the Benghazi scandal. I truly believe there is more to this situation than we've been told, and I'm not alone.

Buzz Jacobs, former Director of Immigration Security Policy under George W. Bush, is on a mission. He and his partner are creating a documentary called "Benghazi 9-11," which seeks to expose the truth behind what happened in Benghazi, and find out the story that the President doesn't want told.

Benghazi 9-11 needs your help, you can donate to the production of the film by going to Indie Gogo.

Should the U.S. Launch A Preemptive Strike On N. Korea?

The Fat Little Prince has dialed up the rhetoric, and I think it's time for the United States to consider sending a message to the dough boy dictator.

I'm not sure the President's anti-war crowd would appreciate it, but I think a preemptive attack on North Korea would potentially save thousands of lives.

I'm not talking about nuking the country. I'm talking about a surgical strike on, for example, two of their least populated missile launch bases.

The President should warn them that in an hour, or two hours, we're going to dust those areas, so get your people out. It would send a message that we aren't playing around, and I think it would go a long way in making Kim Jong-Un rethink this situation.

We've done this before with countries like Libya, and I think it's time to do it again.

I wish that we could see a little bit of Ronald Reagan in President Obama...but he remains silent, and leading from behind.

Second Amendment Sadness

Connecticut has proposed some of the strictest gun laws in the country, and that has people scared.

Gun stores all over the state have been flooded with people in a mad dash to get their hands on weapons, magazines, and ammo that will more than likely end up on the state's list of banned items if/when this bill gets the green light.

I had the chance to talk with Tom Imperati, who owns and operates The Hunter's Shop in Brandford, CT tonight. He's been in business for over 30 years, and he says that, while he's been very busy, the reason behind the recent boom in business is sad...

Are white men to blame for America’s mass shootings?

When you think about the things that might cause someone to commit a mass shooting, what might come to mind?

Maybe someone who had a tough childhood, or someone who has a history of mental health issues, or maybe in some cases (although I feel like the proof isn't there) someone who decided to act out their favorite scene from Grand Theft Auto.

But would you ever think that white men as a race were responsible for the mass shootings in America? Two sisters from Oregon penned a piece for the Washington Post and are claiming just that. The sisters hold eight different college degrees between the two of them. Although holding college degrees does not necessarily matter in all circumstances. Here is an excerpt from their article:

Unlike other groups, white men are not used to being singled out. So we expect that many of them will protest it is unfair if we talk about them. But our nation must correctly define their contribution to our problem of gun violence if it is to be solved. When white men try to divert attention from gun control by talking about mental health issues, many people buy into the idea that the United States has a national mental health problem, or flawed systems with which to address those problems, and they think that is what produces mass shootings. But women and girls with mental health issues are not picking up semiautomatic weapons and shooting schoolchildren. Immigrants with mental health issues are not committing mass shootings in malls and movie theaters. Latinos with mental health issues are not continually killing groups of strangers. Each of us is programmed from childhood to believe that the top group of our hierarchies — and in the U.S. culture, that’s white men — represents everyone, so it can feel awkward, even ridiculous, when we try to call attention to those people as a distinct group and hold them accountable.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the shooter at Virginia Tech of Asian ethnicity? Eduardo Sencion, the man behind an attack at a Carson City, NV IHOP that killed 5 and wounded 7, is hispanic. Nidal Hassan, the man behind the murders at Fort Hood in Texas is Palestinian.

I could list more, but I think that would be unnecessary. That also doesn't take away from the fact that a lot of white men did commit mass shootings.

But I think the sisters are missing the point.

Most mass shootings have been committed by people with mental health issues, who showed signs of being unstable prior to the shootings.

We have a mental health issue in America. Not a gun control issue.

I invited the sisters to come on the show and chat with me about their piece and defend their theory. But as we've come to expect with most liberals, they declined.

I think declining an opportunity to prove your point to someone with opposing views says all we need to know about your ability to properly defend your argument.
