THE LARS LARSON SHOW                         Honestly Provocative.

Lars LarsonLars got his start in radio at age 16 spinning records (remember 45s?) and reading news, sports and weather (twice an hour) on KTIL (The Mighty 1590) from a little cinderblock building on the edge of a cow pasture in Tillamook, Oregon (75 miles West of Portland, Oregon).

36 years later, he’s only moved 75 miles east to Portland and light years to “the Right”. Emmy and Peabody award winner Lars Larson brings nearly four decades of experience as a radio and television journalist to the microphone for six hours of the best talk radio in America. Six hours of daily prep keep The Lars Larson Show on top of the news and top-of-mind for listeners across the country.

Along the way, Lars has worked for more than a dozen radio stations and five television stations. Today, Lars holds down the fort from 12pm – 4pm on Radio Northwest flagship FM NEWS 101 KXL. His local talk show airs on seventeen stations in the Pacific Northwest (and earns him the biggest local talk radio audience in the region).

Chavez Finally Reaches Room Temperature

We learned today of the passing of Hugo Chavez. I think the world will be better for it, but what effect will it have?

We spoke with Dr. Vanessa Neumann, Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, and Hugo Chavez expert, and she says his passing is very significant. She also talked about what the U.S. should do in reaction to his passing.

A Way For Wounded Warriors

I'm lucky enough to have worked in the radio industry for quite some time. In that time, I've had the chance to talk to many famous people, and I always enjoy and appreciate the chance to do so.

Today I had the great opportunity to talk with Country Music legend Charlie Daniels about his new effort with Operation Yellow Ribbon to help our wounded warriors. I can't say enough about this great effort!

Saliva: New On Your Whopper

We trust the workers at places like Burger King and McDonald's to prepare food for us all the time. But as we've seen many times, if you are rude to a worker, or if that work just happens to not like you for some reason, the food that you end up with can be tainted in any number of ways.

A cop dealt with this when he ordered a Whopper from Burger King. He recognized the workers that were at the restaurant that night as people who had criminal backgrounds. Those workers gave the officer his burger, and the officer drove off.

The officer decided to check his burger before consuming it, and he found something that you don't normally find as a condiment on a burger...saliva.

Lawyers.com Editor In Chief Larry Bodine joined me today on the show and talked about the situation, and what repercussions the officer had.

Lesbians Love Lars...

In Colorado, a family is causing a stir because their SIX-YEAR-OLD supposedly transgender child, who was born a boy but identifies as a girl, was told by the school that the child attends that the child would no longer be able to use the girls restroom.

Here's a great breakdown from the Daily Mail:

A six-year-old transgender child is fighting alongside her parents for the right to be recognized as a girl at school. Coy Mathis, who was born male but has identified as female since the age of four, was barred from using the girls' restroom at Eagleside Elementary School in Fountain, Colorado in December.

Prior to the complaint, the first-grader, who dresses as a girl and is recognized as female on her passport and state-issued ID, had experienced no issue using the girls' bathrooms. 'She would use the girl's restrooms, she would be called a girl, she would go in the girl's lines,' Mrs Mathis told host Katie Couric. But a year after making the transition at school, the Fountain-Fort Carson School District informed Coy's parents that she would be barred from using the girl's restrooms after the winter break.

Explaining the chain of events, Mr Mathis said: 'It came out the Coy was no longer going to be able to use the girl's restroom and they were going to require her to be using the boy's room or the staff bathroom or the bathroom for the sick children. 'We didn't know why... we had no idea where this was coming from.' After receiving the news, the couple took all of their children out of Eagleside Elementary School and filed a complaint with the state's civil rights division.

Michael Silverman of the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, who is representing the Mathis family said: 'By forcing Coy to use a different bathroom than all the other girls, Coy’s school is targeting her for stigma, bullying and harassment. 'Coy's school has the opportunity to turn this around and teach Coy's classmates a valuable lesson about friendship, respect and basic fairness.'

But W Kelly Dude, the lawyer for Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8, told CNN that the school 'took into account not only Coy but other students in the building, their parents, and the future impact a boy with male genitals using a girls' bathroom would have as Coy grew older... 'I'm certain you can appreciate that as Coy grows older and his male genitals develop along with the rest of his body, at least some parents and students are likely to become uncomfortable with his continued use of the girls' restroom,' he added. The Mathis' case is the first to challenge restrictions on a transgender person’s bathroom use under Colorado’s anti-discrimination law.

I have a very hard time believing that a six-year-old has the ability to decide that they identify themselves as being of a different gender, and I think the school is within its rights to not subject the students of this school to something that could make them uncomfortable.

I took a number of calls today on the subject, but my favorite was from a caller named Leslie. She's a proud lesbian who actually agrees with my stance on this. Take a listen to her call and see if you agree. Even in liberal Portland, where many in the homosexual community look to attack and bully anyone who disagrees with them, there are many gays who can look at things objectively.

Sequestration Scare Tactic

The sequester is coming, and it looks like there's nothing that will happen in the next 48 hours to stop it. But the President and the crazies in DC are on a crusade to scare every American into thinking that you're going to have to live life without meat inspectors, with longer lines at the airport, and with less teachers for your kids.

The reality is that the dollar amount of these cuts is relatively small; a mere 2.4% of the federal budget. But the President seems to be hellbent on making the cuts in the places where it hurts the most. The logical thing would be to ask each government agency to look through their budget and find a way to cut that small percentage out of their department.

But when it comes to our government...logic is rarely present.

Now the government has made the decision to release somewhere between 6,000 and 10,000 illegal aliens who were already on their way somewhere, and they're using the sequester as the excuse.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte joined me on the program today, and says that the release is nothing more than a scare tactic that will end up costing the taxpayers more money at the end due to the additional crimes that will be committed.

Second Amendment Shutout

If you were a company like Apple, who has customers lining up around the block to get the latest i-whatever that they're pitching, I can understand that you might have the ability to pick and choose some of your customers. But in the radio industry, it can be very difficult to find customers to advertise their product on your station(s).

So if a paying customer came to you and was prepared to drop in the neighborhood of $25,000 on advertising, you might think that something like that would be an easy yes from the station sales department. Well in Washington D.C., they're either rolling in money, or trying to keep a certain type of message from getting out.

Steve Vaus is a Grammy winning recording artist who you may know as Buck Howdy. He's been in the recording industry for years, and is, as he puts it, a rabid supporter of the second amendment. He decided to invest $25,000 of his own money to put a pro second amendment ad on the radio, and the stations in D.C. that he has approached have turned him away, saying that his message is "too controversial."

Listen to this ad that he wants to put on the air. I'd challenge you to tell me that you think this it controversial. I feel like this is a man with a god given talent trying to let the people of Washington D.C. know that there are people out there who DO support the second amendment, despite what the Marxist-In-Chief might think of your gun rights.

If you support Steve's cause, and want to help him get his ad on radio and television, you can click here to donate to his cause.
