Shooting Manhunt Shuts Down Gresham Neighborhood

Written by Jeremy Scott on September 4, 2014

GRESHAM, Ore. — A neighborhood was blocked off and students were kept inside three schools on Thursday afternoon as police searched for a gunman.

A 25-year-old man was shot near Southeast 190th and Stark just after noon.  Witnesses say he was in the street on a bike.

The shooter ran into the parking lot of an apartment building on Yamhill.  He’s said to be a tall, thin black man possibly in his 30’s with a shaved head and light goatee.

Neighbors are fed up with four shootings in three months.

“It’s Rockwood.  Honestly, Rockwood’s always been like that.  That’s why I’m moving,” said neighbor Billy Wilmath.

A K-9 team along with SWAT officers joined in the manhunt.

The doors to Alder, Davis and Hartley Elementary Schools in the Reynolds School District were locked to keep students and staff safe.
