For many politicians, especially those running for office, this is a day to show their faces and shake lots of hands at Labor Day picnics. One of the biggest in the Portland-area is at Oaks Park.
The event involves Democratic candidates. Political analyst Jim Moore says for a long time Labor Day political picnics have been mainly for Democrats.
Moore says union leadership never came around to supporting Republican candidates in legislation or in campaigns. According to Moore, “it’s been that way for over 100 years.
