America’s most active dogs are in Portland. That’s based on research by Whistle, a San Francisco company whose app measures dog activity.
A device, attached to the dog’s collar, syncs to smartphones. Owners get a daily readout of their pet’s movement.
A spokeswoman for Whistle, Julia Waneka, says their study found Portland dogs averaged about an hour and a half of daily activity, the most of all the cities measured. The research also shows America’s least active dogs are in Houston.
Waneka says the activity monitor can be a lifesaver. In one case, according to Waneka, an owner noticed her dog was not moving. It turns out her pet was snakebitten, and rushed to an animal hospital.
