Portland, Ore. — The accusations are grave. Two men say the Seventh Day Adventist Church gave a convicted sex offender a job as a youth leader and then he abused them for years.

“This isn’t a situation where everyone looks back and says oh I wish we could have seen the warning signs. This is a situation where they knew this guy had abused kids. And they didn’t just let him in the church, they put him in charge of the youth program. they put the fox in charge of the hen house.”

The two men who are now close to fifty say they only recently learned that the church knew their abuser had molested other children and still put him in charge of kids. One of the men is a 3rd generation church member and he now holds a position in leadership. He hopes coming forward with bring some change.

“Perhaps change policy. Change our emphasis on how we deal with these matters so that kids are protected.”

The lawsuit is asking for $13.5 million from the church.
