PORTLAND — A naked woman who police say was under the influence of a stimulant threatened to light a building in downtown Portland on fire late Wednesday night.
Witnesses called 911 saying she climbed a flagpole on top of the Oregon Bank Building at Southwest 3rd and Washington, ripped down the flag and draped it around herself. She was holding a lighter and fire extinguisher and threw construction glue from the rooftop, damaging vehicles on the street below.
Officers arrested the woman. They say she appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis. The 34-year-old was taken in for a mental evaluation.
The Yeon Building just a few blocks away on 5th Avenue was set on fire around the same time, but investigators aren’t saying that she’s connected to that fire. Although, witnesses say a woman on the roof there was also holding a flag and yelling “let it burn”.
Urban Renaissance Group owns the building and released this statement:
“We are pleased to report there has been no business disruption for Yeon tenants. The building did not sustain water damage and overall fire damage was limited to the outdoor roof deck area. We expect this area to be restored to its full capacity in short order.”
