Salem, Oregon – The Lighthouse Animal Shelter in Scio has agreed to give Helen Keller, a blind bison, a new home. Wayne Geiger says they went to Salem over the weekend and tried to load her into a trailer, but Helen bumped her hoof, got scared and refused to move any further.

The shelter’s Wayne Geiger says they plan to build a ramp, place her food on it and eventually get her used to the idea of going up the ramp. He says it could take weeks and adds  “a lot of this is going to be up to her.”

The blind bison’s current owner suffered injuries in a car wreck and has some financial challenges and says she can no longer give Helen the care she needs.
