Portland, Ore.– Gang violence in Portland spiked overnight Saturday. A young woman was killed and 3 other people were injured in two gang-related shootings.
Three people were shot in downtown Portland, just steps away from Voodoo Doughnuts. Police and the gang-enforcement team responded to 3rd and Ash just after 12:30 am. Sgt. Pete Simpson says there were two groups of men fighting outside a bar. Someone pulled a gun and began firing hitting the three victims. Two people were taken to the hospital.
Police identified those injured in the shooting as 21-year-old Jaron Cuie, 37-year-old Damarvis Lee and 25-year-old Ricardo Savoy Hernandez.
Then around 5 am a woman was found dead in a SE Portland apartment. It’s believed she was murdered. Police showed up at the Eastwood Village Apartments on SE Powell Sunday morning to learn that one of the apartments seem to be the target. They found 21-year-old Ervaeua Herring dead inside the apartment.
Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson says she was not a known gang member herself, but may have been affiliated through someone else. According to her Facebook she was a single mother, a model for Abercrombie and Fitch, and a Parkrose high grad.
Portland police want your help finding out what happened in both of these cases. Anyone with information, including information from social media sites like Facebook and Youtube.
Police say the Gang Enforcement Team will be providing extra patrols in the next few days as a result of the shooting and the Southeast Portland homicide.
