PORTLAND — She was the only woman on the U.S. Marshals Most Wanted List.  Janet Barreto and her husband Ramon were arrested in Portland Tuesday at the Jantzen Beach Shopping Center.  They’ve been running for almost six years.

One of their adoptive daughters died in New Albany, Mississippi and police say the couple has tortured, beaten and starved their other adopted kids.  The Barretos disappeared shortly before they were supposed to go on trial in the death of Inna Barreto.

The couple was living in Vancouver, Washington for a while.  At the time of the arrest, an 11-month baby was with them.  The state has taken that child into protective custody.

The Barretos are in the Multnomah County Jail.  They will be sent back to Mississippi to stand trial.  Among the charges they face are failure to appear on charges of manslaughter, child abuse, child neglect and tampering with a witness.
