More Wildfires Sparked by Light Show

Lightning strikes

Portland, Oregon   A series of Thunders Storms moved across the state Tuesday .The National Weather Service say the storms forming as early as 7 A.M. in the morning.  A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for part of the afternoon because winds were supposed to pick up in parts of the Willamette Valley.  1,000 to 1,500 lightning strikes were reported in the  Willamette Valley.  Columbia County was the hardest hit area.  members of the Oregon Department of Forestry tried to reach fires as soon as they got started.  In Vernonia they put out several grass and forest fires.  In one area a lightning Bolt hit  one tree and moved quickly to others.  Crews were able to put the blaze out pretty fast .  The Department of Forestry says it’s in preventive mode.  Crews will closely monitor  any lightning Strikes that make ground.  More storms should blow through the Portland Metro area today.  the National Weather Service says thunder storms are lingering today.  they should pass through by late afternoon.
