Cell Phone App Helps Portland Cops Arrest Suspect in Two Violent Crimes

Portland Police say an app on a stolen I-Phone helped them solve both a sexual assault and a robbery.

A woman was raped last week while walking her two dogs in North Portland.  Four days later, cops were flagged down by someone who reported they were robbed of their I-Phone.

Sergeant Pete Simpson says the app led officers to the general location of the phone,  a house on the 4700 block of North Kerby.  There, officers developed leads that tied one suspect, Alex Sebastion, (pictured above) to both the rape and the robbery.

Simpson encourages anyone with a smartphone to activate and learn how to use apps like Find My iPhone.  He says, besides helping find missing phones, such apps could help rescuers find you in the event of a  crash.  Or, they might even help get dangerous people off the streets.
