Written by Jeremy Scott on August 8, 2014

PORTLAND — A man was hit and killed by a Max train at the 122nd and East Burnside transit center late Thursday morning.

Police found 51-year-old David Cain on the pavement with traumatic injuries that were too severe to overcome.  A witness wrapped a shirt around the man’s head to try and control the bleeding, but he died at the scene.

“He was intoxicated crossing the street losing his balance and he stopped for a second and then stumbled into the Max train.  He hit his head first and instantly went on the ground,” said witness Mercedes.

“It appears that the gentlemen was walking southbound on the east crosswalk,” said Lieutenant Eric Schober of the transit division.

Police say the victim was a transient.
