Cornelius – Forest Grove, Cornelius  and Gaston Fire crews arrived to a Cornelius home around 11 pm Saturday to find the side of the house on fire.  It took firefighters about 15 minutes to get the flames put out, and they spent over an hour extinguishing hot spots.

Earlier that evening, fire crews were called out to the same address for a grass fire at 7:40pm.  This happened around 200 yards away from the house next to a field.  The grass fire was started by power lines that were knocked down by a large tree limb.  This fire grew to around 1/4 of an acre.

The house fire caused serious damage to the floor joists and outside wall as well as burned rooms near the outside wall.  The cause appears to be accidental and no one was hurt.
