PORTLAND — Two people were killed in traffic crashes on Friday.  The first claimed the life of a man near the Oregon Coast and the second was south of Portland.

A driver crossed a double yellow line and sideswiped an oncoming vehicle on Highway 30 about three miles east of Astoria just before 7:00am, killing a man in the passenger seat and seriously injuring the woman behind the wheel.  The highway was shut down for a few hours.

Just before noon, a driver took quite the ride off Interstate 5 near Wilsonville.  The vehicle went through about 200′ of grass on the side of the northbound lanes and hit a tree head-on before going up in flames, killing the man driving the car.  Authorities are still determining the cause of the crash.  Traffic was able to get by, but backed up for several miles into Woodburn.
