Skamania County, Washington – It was a tricky rescue at Dougan Falls in Skamania County. The Sheriff’s Office got a 9-1-1 call Monday night from someone saying a man was stuck in the water and his legs were trapped.
They found 19 year old John Napierkowski from Washougal chest deep in water. Deputies worked with fire crews to tie ropes around him and gave him a life jacket. They then started pulling him up river and were able to free him. It’s believed he was stuck in the water for an hour. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging people visiting the falls to use a life jacket when necessary and know the hazards so they can avoid trouble if possible.
