PORTLAND, Ore.- Portland Police say a shooting at the Laurel Place Apartments has sent a 5-year old boy to the hospital. Portland Police SGT Greg Stewart confirmed the boy was hit in the leg and is expected to live.

The shooting happened at 8:51 pm Tuesday, officers responded to the 12500 block of Southeast Powell.

Investigators worked through the night trying to piece together evidence of what happened. Stewart says the Gang Team believes the shooting is related to the spike in recent gang activity and that the boy was not the intended target.

Witnesses told police they heard at least five-shots.

The Laurel Place Apartments was the site of a deadly shooting less than a year ago. 24-year old Princess Antanaye Jackson was shot dead in a stairwell last November.
