PORTLAND — Interstate 84 was closed just east of 122nd Avenue for nearly an hour on Tuesday morning after a truck with a boom crane ripped down power lines across the east and westbound lanes.
After the power company turned off the electricity, crews pulled the lines back across the freeway and allowed traffic to pass.
“The first thing you have to do is make sure there’s no danger. Once we were able to get the power companies out there and make sure those lines were turned off, we were able to drag them out of the way and get traffic moving again”, said ODOT’s Don Hamilton.
A few vehicles stalled in the back-up, likely running out of gas. Traffic backed up westbound into Fairview and eastbound to Interstate 5.
