Vancouver, Washington – Main Street Marijuana and New Vansterdam both learned today they have been granted a license by the Washington Liquor Control Board to open a retail marijuana shop.

Chris Stipe at Main Street says they will open their doors Wednesday at 11 a.m. Because supplies are scarce right now, they will limit each  buyer to 3.5 grams of pot. He says a gram will sell for between $20-$25.

New Vansterdam

New Vansterdam which is located on NE Mill Plain Blvd in the Heights Shopping Mall plans to open on Friday. Don Joling says they have 25-30 pounds of marijuana and thinks the store will be able to be open continuously and not have to shut down due to lack of supplies. That store will also limit the amount someone can buy. He says they will allow a person to purchase just 2 grams and will sell  the marijuana for $20 a gram.

Why would anyone pay app. $80.00 for 3.5 grams which is 1/8th ounce, when it only costs $40.00 on the street? An ounce on the street goes for app. $320.00. How do you justify double the cost?
