MOLALLA, OR – Clackamus County investigators are working to find out how a Molalla man died, after a late night stand off with deputies and a confrontation with the sheriff’s office SWAT team.
Sgt Nate Thompson with the sheriff’s office says 36-year-old Shane Griffin spoke was pronounced dead at the scene, after an hours long stand-off that began with a domestic abuse call. Thompson says Griffin’s wife left the house with their young children after he assaulted her and threatened her with a gun.
Deputies communicated with Griffin over the phone and via text message, but say he would not cooperate.
When the SWAT team was activated around 2am, Thompson says shots were fired almost immediately after the team made contact with Griffin. It’s unclear right now if Griffin took his own life or if he was shot by officers.
Highway 213 in the area was shut down for hours during the investigation, but was cleared just before 9am.
