There’s been a dramatic drop in the number of students disciplined for bringing weapons to Portland Public Schools. At the same time, Oregon Live.Com reports the District has narrowed its definition of weapons.
Under the new policy, for example, if a student brings a hunting knife to school in his backpack it would be categorized as a weapon only if a student threatened someone with it.
According to figures from the Oregon Department of Education, the number of students disciplined in weapons cases in Portland Public Schools was lower than all but one of the metro-area’s top ten school districts.
