CLARK COUNTY, Wash. — It was a busy day for rescuers on the hottest day of the year and the story is all too familiar. The water is swift and bitter cold despite the temperate outside reaching 98 degrees.
A Vancouver man jumped from the rocks at Moulton Falls into the Lewis River and didn’t make it back up. A rescue diver pulled the body of 44-year-old Sean Margetis from about ten feet of water.
Another man drowned near the golf course. It appears his aluminum motorboat got caught up in some debris. The body of 80-year-old Donald Kemper from Ridgefied was found by divers about eight feet under water. Authorities say he wasn’t wearing a life-vest.
Three people have drowned on the Lewis River since Sunday.
