Children are more sensitive to extremely loud noises than adults. That’s according to Christi Sperry. The audiologist specialist with Providence Women’s and Children’s Services says if your child is startled by the sound of a firework, that’s usually a good indicator it’s too loud.
Sperry says fireworks are among the loudest environmental noises that we endure. She says adults should wear earplugs. Children should wear headphones.
According to Sperry, “distance is going to be your best friend.” She says noise-induced hearing loss is cumulative. And that the damage can start when we’re young.
