Portland, Oregon – A 26 year old Fairview man will remain behind bars on charges he made his girlfriend’s five year old daughter smoke marijuana. Marquise Harris-Hill’s attorney tried to get bail reduced. But The Oregonian reports Judge Eric Bergstrom increased bail after seeing pictures of the girl’s bruised body.

Harris-Hill is accused of criminal mistreatment, assault and causing another person to ingest a controlled substance. His attorney says there is no evidence he made the girl inhale the marijuana smoke. Urine tests came back negative.

Police say the girl told them Harris-Hill whipped her with a belt because she didn’t brush her teeth. They¬† went to the apartment May 8th following up on a call that it sounded like a child was being beaten.

Prosecutors says Harris-Hill tortured the girl. His attorney says the belt was a carefully administered discipline. Police say the girl’s mother is a prostitute and Harris-Hill is her pimp. The girl has been removed from the home and the state is seeking custody.
