PORTLAND — Diehard soccer fans began to line-up outside their favorite gathering spots well before the doors opened to get the best seat in the house to watch the United States take on Germany in the World Cup.

The Germans struck first with a goal in the 57th minute to take a one-nil lead.  After four minutes of stoppage time, the score remained.  While it ended in a loss for the Americans, they still advance to the round of sixteen on aggregate goals after Portugal defeated Ghana, 2-1.

For many, it meant taking the day off work or playing hooky.
