PORTLAND — An abandoned house that was boarded up along the Springwater Trail in Southeast Portland went up in flames on Tuesday morning. Crews had a difficult time finding the address because all the streets in the area don’t go through.
“The first crews had to figure out where exactly it was. They could see the smoke. They had to drive using their maps attempting to find it,” said Deputy Fire Chief John Knor.
Firefighters finally found the scene at 87th and Malden and searched the house. There was concern that squatters were living there, but nobody was inside.
It’s the second straight morning that a fire has started in an abandoned residence. A transient living in the house where fire broke out Monday is hospitalized with serious burns.
