Man Swinging Crowbar at Officer Shot Dead

Written by Jeremy Scott on June 12, 2014

PORTLAND — Police shot and killed a man along the Springwater Trail off Foster Road on Thursday morning when they say he wouldn’t drop a large metal crowbar.

The man was wanted for an assault that had just occurred at Southeast 104th and Foster.  The victim pointed police towards the trail where they found the suspect.

An officer fell to the ground during the confrontation and authorities say the man kept swinging the crowbar at the downed officer.  That’s when the officer’s partner fired at him.  None of the officers were injured.

Foster Road and the trail between 101st and 111th are closed for as long as the investigation takes.

OMG My co-worker wittnessed this on her way to work this am. She said she just happen to look over at the 2 police cars at the entrance to the SWT and saw the suspect hit one of the officers with the crow bar and then saw the other office fire 2 shots at the suspect. She could not believe what was happening! Said it was like a movie.
