Man Facing Charges For Bringing Gun To School Shooting

Written by Jeremy Scott on June 11, 2014

TROUTDALE — When a man heard there was a shooting at his sister’s school on Tuesday, 21-year-old Joseff Powell of Gresham grabbed a gun and went to Reynolds High School to protect her, he says.

Powell tried to get around a checkpoint in a church parking lot next to the school where students were being evacuated.  A Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputy stopped Powell and patted him down and found a loaded semi-automatic pistol sticking out of his waistband.

Powell doesn’t have a permit to carry and says he knew it was a “stupid” thing to do.  He was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and later released facing a court date.

When his car was searched, deputies found a second magazine full of 9mm ammunition and a handgun holster.
