Bend, Oregon – A wildfire burning just west of Bend has grown to 6,800 acres. Three schools have  cancelled classes today. Others may hold recess inside, depending on air quality.

More than 300 firefighters are fighting the Two Bulls Fire, which has yet to be contained. Some 40 homes have been evacuated with  2,000 other homeowners being told to stand by for a possible evacuation. The Red Cross has opened a shelter for evacuees at High Desert Middle School. The Deschutes County Fairgrounds will serve as a livestock shelter for evacuees who need to move their animals.

The Two Bulls Fire started as two separate fires on Saturday and then merged. There’s concern today about winds, which are expected to increase today and tomorrow. A meeting will be held at Bend High School tonight at 6pm.
