Portland, Oregon The goal is a lofty one… that’s to have new synthetic fields at all of Portland Public High Schools. The project is a joint partnership with Nike, the Portland Timbers Army and many community contributors. Portland Public schools is able to contribute 7 million dollars through construction excise tax revenue. Nike added another $700 thousand dollars to the effort. “the original vision of the “Ten Fields Project” was to re-imagine the fields of play for PPS students ,said Ken Dice, Vice President/General Manager, Running, North America, NIKE,Inc. ” “We wanted all student athletes no matter what neighborhood they lived in or what sport they played- to have an opportunity to play or run on a high quality outdoor track and field.”
Jefferson high had it’s groundbreaking today. It’s new field should be ready to rock it in the Fall. Madison, Wilson, and Marshall are also on the path to new fields. Franklin High will get it’s field re-do during it’s remodel scheduled to be completed in 2017.
