Salem Man Arrested Following Standoff With SWAT Team

Written by Jeremy Scott on June 5, 2014

SALEM — The Marion County Sheriff’s SWAT team surrounded a home on Lancaster Drive Northeast for more than six hours on Tuesday trying to get an armed man to surrender.

A woman and child were able to escape from a domestic disturbance around 8:30 in the morning, but the man reportedly wouldn’t give up and barricaded himself inside.  When the house was cleared by mid-afternoon, nobody was there.

Authorities were after 20-year-old Sir Diamond Damien Gipson.  He turned himself in to police in Springfield on Thursday.  Gipson is charged with assault and menacing.
