The Taliban have released a video of the exchange of US soldier Bowe Bergdahl to American special forces after being a captive for five years.
The video features the captions “Don’ come back to afghanistan [sic]” He is patted down for hazards and a bag with his meager possessions is unceremoniously discarded by his rescuers. Then, after less than a minute on the ground, the helicopter takes off for it’s return trip to an American base.
The US military will likely take issue with the video as it details particular military tactics used in certain rescue operations, as well as shows the face of one special forces team member. It also shows Bergdahls condition, which may be demoralizing to forces and the american public.
This is a problematic situation all around as Bergdahl had allegedly deserted when he was captured. The president is also facing accusations of negotiating with terrorists. It also has been called a questionable trade, letting go of five top level Taliban, including a former army chief, a deputy spy chief and one of the founders of the movement.
