PORTLAND — Two bad crashes on Sunday sent five people to the hospital.
A driver tried to hold his breath through a tunnel on Highway 26 near Manning, but he didn’t make it through and crashed into two other vehicles when he fainted behind the wheel. The car veered into the opposite lane and crashed head-on into another vehicle, causing both to bounce off the walls of the tunnel and hit a third.
19-year-old Daniel Calhon from Snohomish, Washington was cited for reckless driving, three counts of recklessly endangering another person and assault.
All four people involved were injured.
A 20-year-old woman was seriously injured when she lost control on Stafford Road outside of Tualatin and slid into oncoming traffic where she was hit by a semi.
She had to be cut loose from the wreckage and was flown from the scene to a hospital.
