Man With Knife Shot By Officer Dies

Written by Jeremy Scott on May 1, 2014

SALEM — A man who reportedly wouldn’t drop a knife when confronted by police was shot by an officer Wednesday morning in the parking of a condominium complex.

Officers were called to a violent fight at the Arbor Townhouse Condos on Northeast Lancaster Drive just after 7:00 involving the man and his wife.

Witnesses say 47-year-old Michael Conley was threatening them and charged at Officer David Baker.  Conley was shot in the head and died from his injuries later in the evening.

Officer Baker has been on the force just over a year.  He was not injured.
