LAKE COUNTY, Ore. — The owner of the 24 Ranch says she couldn’t afford to keep feeding an almost 500 pound black bear anymore.  Marie Leehmann got a permit from the state to kill it after it ate two of her cattle.

Her son Ryon took down the bear with two shots. S he says the bear was “six feet five inches from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail, his head measurement was 21 and a quarter inches; he was rather large”.

The permit allowed them to use the hide and meat.  She says her son is having the hide made into a bear rug and they made salami out of the meat.  She says all the ranchers in the area are very glad the big black bear is gone.
