GRESHAM, Ore. — The family of 27-year-old Jessie Doyle Cavett gathered in the park blocks across the street from the Multnomah County Courthouse on Monday asking a Judge to give their daughter’s killer the maximum sentence possible and avoid trial.
In October, Josuha Cavett shot and killed his wife in front of their two small children. The couple had a long history of domestic abuse. The pair separated Covett threatened to torture the woman by tying her up to a chair and peeling her skin off layer by layer. Jessie’s 5 year-old daughter Peyton a witness to the shooting called a family friend saying “Josh hurt Mommy, Josh shot Mommy.” The friend called 9-1-1.
Jenny Cochran, Jessie’s sister talked exclusively with FM News 101 saying the family does not want this case to go to trial it would be too traumatic for Peyton. She hopes the judge will listen.
Joshua Cavett is asking for a plea deal. The Doyle family doesn’t think he should receive any breaks.
