PORTLAND – He’s one of the biggest names in rap, but he didn’t come to Portland to perform.
Macklemore (aka Ben Haggerty) was a featured speaker at TEDxPortland on Saturday, speaking to hundreds at the Keller Auditorium. The event topic this year was “Perfect.”
Macklemore spoke for over 20 minutes, talking on subjects ranging from writing songs and performing, to why he hasn’t signed with a major record label.
When discussing the song “Save Love,” Macklemore said he originally tried to write the song from the perspective of someone who was gay, but decided to write from his own upbringing instead, having two gay uncles.
