A manhole discovered missing Monday night , on Northeast 22nd Avenue near the Banfield freeway (I-84), may have been missing for quite some time.
Crews with Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services responded to the area after someone called-in that the cover was missing.
Linc Mann with B.E.S. says inside the manhole they found old cookware, propane tanks, and all kinds of household garbage. Mann says a homeless camp in that area was cleaned out by the Oregon Department of Transportation a year ago and may have been the source of the garbage.
Mann recalls they once found a bunch of Christmas trees in a manhole, which also caused a sewer overflow like the one this week.
