Off-Duty Officer Saves People From Burning Car

Written by Christina Kemp on March 30, 2014

An off-duty Washington County cop is being praised as a hero, after she was able to pull two people from a burning vehicle last night.

Corporal Cheryl Crecelius came across an SUV only moments after it had crashed and caught fire on Spring Hill Road, east of Gaston. She was able to pull Jason Eaton from the Jeep. She went back for the driver but Mark Vanbleck’s legs were pinned.

A Good Samaritan who stopped helped pull Vanbleck out before flames consumed the car. All were rushed to the hospital. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.
